Remix V2

I have found this website that is perfect for my Remix. As I was looking to use samples like on the song "Streetcleaner", this website combines ambient background music with a live broadcast of police radio frequencies from certain American states.

I have also tweaked the levels, effects and composition of the previous version.

Songs for inspiration.

I am going to adopt the vocal sample style of Henry Lee Lucas from this song and incorporate it into my mix.

Chosen Producer

I have decided to go with Justin K Broadrick.

Producer, Re-mixer, Musician general all rounder.

He has been in the music industry since the early 80's. He has been in bands such as Godflesh, Jesu, Napalm Death and more. He as also remixed many artists including Isis, Pelican, Pantera, Knut and more.

This means that he has dealt with many different genres of music. I am particularly looking at his days in Godflesh, and the remixes done for Isis, Pelican and Explosions in the sky.

Justin's Mark on the Industry

Just was part of the NWOBHM when he was in such bands as Godflesh starting in 1988, he is considered one of the big metal bands to come out of Birmingham, like Black Sabbath Judas Priest and Napalm Death.

Justin became the main artist on Earache Records for a long time, through this he met many other independent labels in America.

This can be seen with one of his more recent bands Jesu. Jesu are on Hydrahead records owned by Aaron Turner. Justin has done remixes for Aarons band Isis, among other label mates such as Pelican, Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Knut

He has done remixes for other bands is the same genre such as Pantera and Explosions in the sky. All of these being bands very well know in there genre.

Justin has furthered his relationship with Aaron Turner and Hydrahead records with his most recent band called Graymachine.

More proof to show how well renowned Justin really is, both Faith No More and Danzig have asked him to join their groups, both bands been giants in the metal scene. However Justin turned down both offer to carry on work with his own projects.

Justin tends to not care about chart success or and success at all. Its more about the music and if he enjoys it he hopes others will too.

I will now post the songs that I will draw my remix ideas from in the next few posts.

Prelude

Before I explain my chosen Producer I listened to all 4 tracks that have been given to us. Seeing what ideas came to mind I went for the "Euler - Be Free" track as it was the track with the most going on in it dynamically and sound wise.

My Idea was to create a Brian Eno/J K Broadrick/Isis styled track. Depending on how my songs basic structure turns out I will choose my final producer.

So far I have mixed and sent all tracks to appropriate stems. After this I bounced the tracks as .WAV ending in the suffix Pre PS.

I then used a program called Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch. After rendering at different Stretches and Window sizes, I was happy with the sounds of x8 Stretch and 7.324K Window Size.

I then Rendered my stems again in 24bit .WAV with the suffix POST PS.

I then imported them into logic and start creating my basic song structure.

My original basic song structure ended up being 34 minutes. After realising this is too long and only satisfying my self indulgence I managed to cut it down to 11:11. However I still have managed to get some self indulgent ideas in there that I will reveal later. The length is now perfect as all 3 of my semi-final producers create tracks normally longer than standard radio tracks. These songs range from 9-15 minutes.
